GMT-Master II is named for its function. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) refers to the standard time measured at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, a suburb of London. Since 1884, GMT has been the prime meridian for determining the 24 different time zones around the world.
The GMT-Master II is an exceptional city watch. In addition to the traditional time, it also displays the time in a second time zone by means of a dedicated 24-hour hand and a 24-hour scale with a two-color rotating bezel. At a glance, the wearer can read the time at his or her current location and the time on the other side of the globe, a link between the wearer and wherever his or her heart desires. It is a link between the wearer and the place where his or her heart lies. It carries memories, plans, experiences and future journeys.
Chosen by the crews of Pan American World Airways (Pan Am), the GMT was a model for aviation watches, which would later become popular with globetrotters and gradually make its mark in other fields.
With its rugged, water-resistant Oyster case and GMT function indicating a second time zone, its technical excellence and intuitive design made it a reliable companion for pioneers exploring new or unfamiliar territories.
